Juvenile Komodo

‘Slash’ was the first Komodo to be bred in Europe, as part of Jim Pether’s breeding project, in the Canary Islands. He looked so good, I just had to paint him. Once hatched, juvenile Komodo Dragons live a mostly arboreal life until large enough to avoid predation by the adults. The small Draco lizard, also depicted, would be a welcome prey item for a young Komodo Lizard, during this period.
