LIVING IN THE CHIRICAHUA MOUNTAINS
When I read Esther Close’s original manuscript for this book, I noticed that she frequently referenced a Maureen, one of her young students. It dawned on me that this was none other than my old friend from many years ago, Maurine Hicks, as a child. Thanks to this book, I was afforded a glimpse into her early school days in 1920s Arizona, something that would never have happened if not for Esther Close’s forethought in keeping a journal and for the kind generosity, many years later, of her son Jim Close. I truly hope you enjoy reading Esther’s little book, Living in the Chiricahua Mountains.
